I know how hard it is to get started and especially when you are young. You are starting about the age I did. But thankfully things are a bit easier these days.
Here's a few points to think about:
What are you looking for in a TOP? Someone who will slowly introduce you to the play or a harsh Master who is rough?
Do you want someone young (say 20s) or older (30s, 40s, 50s, 60s...) (generally younger TOPs (say under 35) are a little inexperienced in that SM is about understanding the mind not just applying the belt.
Do you want to have your scene in private or in a group situation (SMers often meet in groups). The downside of a group is loss of privacy but the upside is you are usually safer as others are watching.
Are you into (or do you feel you would be into) pain or submission or humiliation or a mix of these (see my site on Roles & Responsibilities for more on this).
The most important thing to remebr when you start out is to Play Safe. Don't agree to any unsafe sex and don't agree to be completely tied down until your really trust the TOP you are playing with.
