Terms like military, army, soldier etc tend to describe the style of scene more than its severity. Such scenes are usually carried out as if they are part of military service. They almost always involved uniforms and military paraphernalia – at least for the TOP. The bottom may be naked or simply wear army boots and socks.
The action is strict and formal like an army parade ground. The bottom must stand to attention, do as ordered smartly and immediately without questioning. Take his punishments like a man. He will say “Yes, Sir” to every order and perform it without question.
Some military games focus exclusively upon this giving and taking of orders – of the exertion of the power of the ‘Officer’ over the ‘soldier’ through the spoken word. In others, there will be heavy play, which may be in the form of punishment duties or to instill military discipline. Or they may be more in the way of ‘tortures’ – a soldier who has fallen into the hands of an enemy and must be made to talk. In this last case, there is usually an action or a spoken phrase that the bottom performs or says when he gives up. Until then the pain is applied by the ‘Officer’ or ‘enemy Commandant’ to force him to break and tell his ‘secret’.
Such roles can be very liberating in that they clearly define how you should act and give a certain dignity to the bottom while he is suffering. He can take pride in the way he promptly obeys the commands of the ‘Officer’, in the way he presents his body for punishment and takes it like a man, accepting his orders with a clear, enthusiastic “Yes, Sir”.
Equally, when he breaks down, the humiliation (and the sense of fulfillment humiliation can bring to a bottom that has been broken) can be all the more intense.
A ‘Military Officer’ type will want a disciplined, respectful and efficient bottom. Regular soldier bottoms tend to be physically fit, keeping their hair cropped short and their face clean-shaven. But since such games are also fantasies, this is by no means always a necessity.
The level of pain-play is something you would have to establish in more detail with the individual concerned as the range of military play can span from spoken humiliation to intense physical pain. As with all such negotiations this should happen well before the session, be quite clear to all concerned before the play begins and respected by both sides throughout.
